Manitoba Hosts National Summit on Mental-health Promotion, Illness Prevention

Conference to Focus on Governments, Communities, Individuals Working Together: Selinger

Manitoba is welcoming leading mental-health researchers, government representatives and other stakeholders dedicated to the many issues related to mental health and mental illness as part of a national summit, Premier Greg Selinger announced today.

“Manitoba is pleased to host this important summit where we will hear the most recent scientific research on promoting mental health and preventing mental illness,” he said. “Some of the most compelling research tells us there may be ways to prevent and reduce the incidence of mental illness, which has the potential to improve the quality of life for many individuals and families, and affect the way that we all tackle this important issue.” (more…)

Launch of the Mustimuhw cEMR (Community Electronic Medical Record)

January 26, 2012 (Winnipeg, MB) – First Nation patients will benefit from better health and health care through information and communications technologies with the launch of the Mustimuhw cEMR (Community Electronic Medical Record), due to the hard work of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, announced AMC Grand Chief Derek Nepinak.

The Mustimuhw cEMR (community Electronic Medical Record) is a computer program that provides health professionals with quick access to secure patient information such as blood test results, medication history and allergies. Developed by First Nations to offer solutions designed around First Nation Health Centre needs, the Mustimuhw cEMR’s goal is to establish compatibility with clinical EMR systems in nine First Nation communities, so patient information can be shared more easily amongst authorized care providers both on and off reserve.

Fit First is an inspiring ‘real life’ television series that chronicles the trials and triumphs of Aboriginal people on a mission to change their lives. After a successful first season that saw four people lose weight and improve their body, mind and spirit, six new half-hour episodes will broadcast on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) this New Year.
