The sea is a treasure trove of riches for Nunavik. It is rife with untapped resources, including northern seaweed, which could lead to a small gold mine of an industry in Quebec’s far north: marine cosmetics. Nunavik Biosciences Inc. was founded in 2005 to see how unutilized or underutilized resources found in the region and adjacent waters could create small-scale economic activity in Nunavik communities. Its investigation of local marine resources brought to light a species of seaweed that held particular promise.

Thunder Bay (May 1, 2012) – Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business Hosts a Business Luncheon for the Thunder Bay business community. Joseph Carrabba, Chairman, President and CEO of Cliffs Natural Resources will be the keynote speaker.

WHO:  Joseph Carrabba, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cliffs Natural Resources, will provide an overview of Cliffs Natural Resources with an update on the Ring of Fire in Ontario and the opportunities it could potentially bring to the region.

WHY: Cliffs Natural Resources is an international mining and natural resources company whose strategy is to achieve scale and diversification in the mining industry through a focus on serving the world’s largest and fastest growingsteel markets.  Mr. Carrabba will speak about Global Growth Strategies for an Integrated Mining Company, the megatrends impacting the mining industry, and Cliffs Natural Resources’ perspective on the challenges of the global iron ore industry.  Mr. Carrabba will also discuss Cliffs’ major investments in Canada including its iron ore expansion plans in Eastern Canada and its proposed chromite project in the Ring of Fire area in Northern Ontario.
