Golf Tournament Raises Funds for BC First Nation Education Bursaries

With a 2nd annual charity golf tournament to be held in August 2, 2012, The New Relationship Trust Foundation (NRTF) aims to raise $50,000 to support First Nation students!

New Relationship Trust has had an exciting year with launching the newly created New Relationship Trust Foundation! The Foundations mission is to assist aboriginal peoples to meet their education goals, and to support BC First Nation language revitalization strategies. The foundation is now hosting the golf tournament to raise funds for students going to school for their Trades or Certificate/Diploma programs!

The two-person, best ball tournament will take place at the University Golf Club, University of BC, on Thursday, August 2, 2012. Start time is 1:15 p.m. We have over $10,000 in prizes!
The $250 entry fee Includes:
• 18 holes of golf
• Golf Cart
• Boxed lunch
• Dinner at UBC Golf Course
• Chance to win a number of amazing cash prizes!

This year, NRT will provide $500,000 in support for post-secondary scholarships and bursaries. Of that, we allocate $120,000 goes toward Bursaries for Aboriginal students pursuing trades, certificates and diplomas. This allows for 60 Bursaries of $2,000 each. Last year’s golf tournament brought in over $16,000 that went directly to bursaries to help students and this year we aim to raise $50,000! That would help an additional 25 students with their schooling.

“75% of all jobs in Canada require some level of post-secondary education,” says NRT CEO Cliff Fregin. “That means having a certificate, degree or diploma not only gives First Nations youth a leg up in the workforce; without one, they simply may not be employable. And with each level of education achieved, our young people have a greater chance of gaining quality employment, and in turn of building the overall capacity of First Nations in BC.”

In addition to funding raised through golfer fees, a number of sponsorship opportunities are available, ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. Sponsors will be recognized at the tournament dinner and in promotional materials.

Registration and Sponsorship details for the event can be found online at the NRT website: www.nrtfgolf.ca
