Dilico Anishinabek Family Care together with the Honorable Mary Anne Chambers, Minister of Children and Youth Services, launched Dilico’s Youth Outreach Services program today at the 17th Annual Boys and Girls Clubs of Thunder Bay Open House.
“Youth Outreach Services is one way that the community can better support at risk youth,” said Dr. Donald Auger, Executive Director of Dilico. “We are helping provide the resources, access, and support that will inspire young people to make positive choices to improve their situation.”
Youth Outreach Services is intended to help any young person, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal living in difficult circumstances to make positive life choices. The program utilizes Youth Outreach Workers (YOWs) specifically trained and experienced to deliver support that addresses the needs of these youth and to work in partnership with their families, other community programs and agencies and educators. The YOWs do not receive formal referrals for service. Services occur through direct engagement with the youth and depend upon the availability of YOWs in the community.
”Dilico is proud to have been chosen by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services to provide a new youth program to the Thunder Bay community,” added Auger. “The Youth Outreach Workers connect directly with youth on the streets, assisting them in identifying and accessing the appropriate community support they require- for example, healthcare, education, food, housing, job training, and employment.”
Continuously at the forefront of Anishinabek child and family services, Dilico Anishinabek Family Care provides a range of responsive individual, family and community programs for the complete life journey of all Anishinabek people. The agency cares for the physical health, the mental health, and the health of the communities where Anishinabek people live by promoting wellness, preventing illness and trauma, and providing diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Dilico’s programs and services are available for Aboriginal and First Nations residents of any age in Dilico’s jurisdiction, and for children in the care of Dilico and their caregivers.
